Samarkand
The Fann Mountains and the Seven Marguzor Lakes in Tajikistan — a Day Trip from Samarkand
About this tour
Travel from Samarkand to Tajikistan on an unforgettable one-day journey to the Fann Mountains and the famous Seven Marguzor Lakes. This spectacular Central Asian nature tour allows you to cross the border between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in one day and experience dramatic mountain scenery, turquoise alpine lakes, narrow gorges and highland landscapes. Early in the morning, we pick you up from your hotel in Samarkand and drive to the Uzbekistan–Tajikistan border. After completing border formalities, you cross the border on foot and continue to Penjikent, where a professional Tajik guide will meet you. From Penjikent, the journey continues into the Fann Mountains and the Marguzor Valley, one of Tajikistan’s most scenic mountain regions. The main highlight of the trip is visiting all seven Marguzor Lakes: Mijgon, Soya, Hushyor, Nofin, Khurdak, Marguzor and Hazorchashma. Each lake has its own character, color and surrounding landscape. As the road climbs deeper into the mountains, the scenery changes continuously, with dramatic cliffs, narrow valleys and increasingly vivid shades of blue and turquoise in the mountain lakes. At the sixth or seventh lake, there is an opportunity to stop for a picnic. Upon request, we can provide the food for the picnic, allowing you to relax surrounded by the mountains and enjoy the scenery. During the warmer months, swimming in one of the lakes may also be possible if weather and local conditions permit. After exploring the Seven Marguzor Lakes, the journey returns to Penjikent. Your guide accompanies you back towards the border, where you cross into Uzbekistan on foot. Our driver meets you on the Uzbek side and takes you back to Samarkand. This one-day nature tour from Samarkand to Tajikistan is ideal for travelers who want to experience the Fann Mountains, all seven Marguzor Lakes and the spectacular alpine landscapes of Central Asia without staying overnight in Tajikistan. The experience combines international travel, mountain scenery, lakes, a picnic and the possibility of swimming in a single memorable day.
